About University of Vermont

The University of Vermont and State Agricultural College, commonly known as University of Vermont or simply UVM, is a national public research university in Burlington, which is the largest city in the state of Vermont, as well as the county seat of Chittenden County.

During the 2000 census, Burlington's population was estimated at a number of nearly 40 000 inhabitants, and it is known as having the smallest metropolitan area in the nation, as well as being the smallest US city to be the largest one in a state.

UVM was founded in 1791, as a private university, in the same year, when Vermont became the 14th state in the union. In 1865, the university was merged with Vermont Agricultural College, due to which fact, it later became known as the University of Vermont and State Agricultural College.
